Feature Writing Piece Ideas

I am still in the midst of deciding which topic I intend on writing about, but there is this one particular subject I would be interested in addressing; how far people should go to protect pets. My ex-roomate witnessed his friend attack another person after a person shot his friend's dog with a pellot gun in response to the terrier pooping on the edge of his lawn. The police came upon the scene and sided with the dog owner due to the fact that he was defending a helpless animal. People go great lengths to defend their pets. Sometimes defending a pet may get extreme and violent, while other times it's a simple argument resolved. The lengths people go to defend their pets would be a very interesting subject to address to the public.
